.OK. so you're thinking, what the heck is this person talking about, but the title peeked your curiosity.
BARF is simply Bones And Raw Food. Yes we are talking nutrition. This is what my dogs are fed and pups are weened on.
I do not believe in commercial dog food in any way. I believe if I wouldn't eat it, my dogs shouldn't either. All the food that is given to my dogs in "for human consumption." I feel that cooking takes out many of the nutrients that were originally put into the food and that is why Raw is fed. And yes, raw bones. NEVER cooked. Bones splinter when cooked and can lead to multiple problems. Raw bones are pliable, and pass through the intestinal tract and are broken down by stomach acids. My dogs are also fed fruits, veggies, yogurt, eggs, fish, and some oats. All raw, except for the oats/rice that must be cooked. I also add vitamins to compensate what may be lacking in the foods. (Just like a one-a-day vitamin for myself.)
Advantages To Barf
1.  A well balanced diet has all the nutrients your dog needs.
2.  Strong jaws and minimum tarter build up from chewing bones. (This is like getting their teeth brushed every day.)
3.  Great skin, coat, and eyes with a decrease in diet related allergies.
4.  Great muscle condition.
5.  No deficiencies or excesses that can cause health problems later in life.
6.  Harder stools.
7.  Price is compatible if not less than commercial dry/canned foods.
----I understand this is a different way of looking at feeding our pals. However, this way of life has been around since the first dog, thousands and thousands of years. Commercial food is approximately 100 or so years old. I am not, by far, the only breeder, person that believes the same as I do. There are books published and online lists that can give more detailed information.
